Joseph Akande is a finance and accounting academic with extensive experience across South Africa, Namibia, and Nigeria. He currently serves as a Professor at Walter Sisulu University and holds a C2 NRF rating for his impactful research in financial reporting, stability, inclusion, and econometrics in emerging markets. Prof. Akande has published over 70 peer-reviewed, accredited articles and co-edited books with Springer Nature, earning awards such as the Research Excellence Award and AAFA Best Paper.
He actively contributes to academia through postgraduate supervision (5 PhDs, 25 Master's), editorial board roles (e.g., *AAFA, AJBER, HSSC*), and as Chair of the Faculty Research Higher Degree and Ethics Committee. He also leads the Rural Financial Systems project under SARNE and serves on national and international research panels.
A Fellow of ACCA and a Certified Financial Modelling and Valuation Analyst (FMVA), he has demonstrated leadership in program development, academic mentoring, and research-driven community engagement. Prof. Akande brings to SAAA a wealth of interdisciplinary insight and a deep commitment to advancing accounting research in the region and on the continent.
